The question that I am asked the most has an easy solution: "How do I make my computer run faster?". The answer is simple. The first thing that anyone experiencing a slow PC should do is edit the startup tab in msconfig. I install a ton of software on my PC and have to do this often. As new programs are installed to a PC, these programs tend to insert themselves into the startup. This will insure that the program starts when the PC is first booted. Although this can make the individual programs start faster, it will eventually slow your overall PC speed.First left-click on the "Start" button in the lower left hand corner of your screen. Then left-click "Run". When the "Run" dialog opens, type "msconfig" (without the quotations) in the open space and then select "Ok". The "System Configuration Utility" window will open and the "General" tab will be displayed by default. At this point, select the "Startup" tab and all startup programs will be displayed. All items that are checked will run when the PC starts. Uncheck any item that is not needed at the startup (Please keep in mind that by doing so, you are not removing the item from your computer). You may want to keep some of the items checked (for instance: printer or video software). After you have unchecked all desired items, left-click "Apply" and then "Ok". A dialog will appear asking you if you would like to restart your computer. Left-click "Restart". If you had a lot of items selected before, then you should notice a considerable speed boost when the PC boots back up.
